BALLER MOVE: Add in All Leagues

OWNED IN: 23% of Yahoo Leagues

ANALYSIS: San Diego Padres relief pitcher Brad Hand picked up his second save in as many days on Thursday and may now by the closer for San Diego. Manager Andy Green is denying that claim, making it seem as if San Diego will rotate between Hand and incumbent Brandon Maurer, but Hand's 2.00 ERA and 1.04 WHIP this season should be enough to hold off Maurer. Since being acquired by the Padres last season, only Yankees reliever Dellin Betances and Indians reliever Andrew Miller have more strikeouts as a reliever, and his 12.1 K/9 this season are truly elite. Hand has posted a K-BB% over 20% in each of the last two seasons, but he does have a 1.50 WHIP over the last 14 days.

Hand's numbers are ridiculous, but his opportunities may dwindle. It appears that Hand has unseated Brandon Maurer as the closer, but Carter Capps could also apply pressure for the closer's job when he returns. The bigger issue for those buying Hand for the long term is that he is a huge part of trade rumors to championship contenders, where he will probably be a lefty specialist. In the short term, though, Hand is the closer for the Padres and needs to be owned in all leagues.
