NBA Waiver Wire: Week 11 Category Streamers

Week 11 is here and full of weekend streamers for you! But seriously, this week there were a ton of streamer candidates over basically every category, so I included a few extra this week.

This column will be posted every week as part of RotoBaller's regular season NBA coverage for the 2015-16 NBA season. It will focus on available players who could win you your H2H matchup in specific categories.

All of these players will have multiple games over the weekend, but in most cases will only help your team in one or two categories. To be clear, most of these players are “streamers,” meaning that unless they drastically increase their basketball skills overnight, these players should NOT be rostered for an extended period of time in leagues of standard depth. Everyone should only be used if you need help winning a specific category in your matchup and you don’t have to drop anyone valuable.

For long term adds to consider, check out our NBA Waiver Wire Blog, as well as our other Week 11 coverage, including Waiver Wire Forwards and Guards.

Last thing, we’ll usually only focus on one player per category, but list other available options underneath. Certain guys might be listed in more than one category, so if you need help in both, be sure to make those players a priority.

Position Eligibility & Ownership Rate Based on Yahoo! Fantasy Basketball Player List

NBA Week 11 Category Streamers

Rebounds Streamers

Larry Nance Jr.  (LAL, PF) - 26% owned

Weekend Schedule: Fri vs. OKC, Sun vs. UTA

Larry Nance Jr. is a little higher owned than I normally like to include in this article, but he’s playing great, getting consistent minutes, and is coming off of his best game of the season a few nights ago in Phoenix. In that game Nance notched his second double-double in five games, grabbing 14 rebounds and scoring 15 points.

While I don’t think we should expect this on a nightly basis, Coach Byron Scott has not been shy about his fondness of Nance, and has made it clear he will be a staple in the Lakers rotation going forward. The matchup with Oklahoma City is not a favorable one, especially with regards to rebounds. However, Utah could be without Derrick Favors and Rudy Gobert, which would provide a great opportunity for Nance to make up any shortcomings from the night before.

Nance isn’t going to provide much outside of rebounds and some points, but he has notched double digit rebound totals in three of his last five games, which is exactly what you are looking for out of a rebound streamer.

Trevor Booker (UTA, PF) - 3% owned

Weekend Schedule: Sat vs. MIA, Sun @ LAL

This is the first of two streamer picks that hinge largely on the status of Derrick Favors. HOWEVER, even if Derrick Favors does return before the weekend, I think he’ll be eased into the action, which should still leave plenty of upside for Trevor Booker and (Spoiler Alert) Jeff Withey.

Booker is only 3% owned, and it’s for a reason. He’s a one trick rebounding pony and is even a little inconsistent in that category. Over his last five games his rebound totals have read: 7, 11, 4, 15, and 9. Overall pretty good numbers, but because he’s a short term pickup it makes things a little riskier.

This weekend Booker faces off against the league’s worst overall rebounding team in the Los Angeles Lakers. That matchup alone is worth the add if your matchup is going to come down to rebounds. This will also be the fifth game in seven nights for the Jazz, ensuring Booker gets plenty of opportunities to grab rebounds in both contests--yes, even if Favors is back.

3PM Streamer

Allen Crabbe (POR, SG) - 17% owned

Weekend Schedule: Fri vs GSW, Sun vs OKC

I am very, very late to hop on the Allen Crabbe bandwagon but it looks like there’s still plenty of room. 17% is criminally under-owned for a guy shooting as much as Crabbe. Yes I know Damian Lillard was out for a lot his big games, but sometimes that’s all it takes to get a shooter like Crabbe going. And even more encouraging, Crabbe played 32 minutes in Lillard's first game back. I expect those minutes to continue going forward.

Over the last two weeks, Crabbe has averaged 15 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.4 3PM a game. Although I think his points and rebounds will take a hit with Lillard's return, I think the threes will continue to fly, as the Trailblazers are focused on developing their young talent.

This weekend is perfect for Crabbe to continue his hot streak. Yes, the Warriors and Thunder are two of the best teams in the west, but both games will be fast paced with lots of 3PA. Most likely, both of these games will be over very early which will provide Crabbe extra minutes in garbage time.  Although you never want to count on garbage time for production, it can be a serious factor in fantasy basketball and should always be something to think about for weekend streamers.

I expect at least five 3PM over the weekend, and could be closer to eight if he gets hot in either game.

Blocks Streamers

John Henson (MIL, PF/C) - 15% owned

Weekend Schedule: Fri vs. ORL, Sun vs. MIA

Henson is a straight-up block machine. Unfortunately, he does nothing else. A lot of that is due to the fact that he gets extremely inconsistent minutes, which is not something you want to hear about a potential streamer pick up. However, it doesn’t really matter how much Henson plays when it comes to blocks. Last week he recorded three blocks in 14 minutes against Toronto.

If you dig into the numbers, Orlando gives up the fifth most blocks in the NBA, giving Henson an opportunity for one of his 5 or more block games; something he’s done twice over his last seven games. Potential like that is hard to come by on the waiver wire for blocks, and could easily swing the category in your favor.

Jeff Withey (UTA, C) - 25% owned

Weekend Schedule: Sat vs. MIA, Sun @ LAL

Withey is on a tear right now, and if Derrick Favors decides to take it easy this weekend, he will continue to provide huge numbers. Over his last five games he’s been quietly averaging 10.8 points, 9 rebounds, 1.6 steals, and a whopping three blocks a game. Even more impressively he’s blocked at least two shots in every game over that span- about as consistent as it gets.

Obviously, his stock takes a hit if Derrick Favors returns this weekend, but again, the Jazz play five games in seven nights this week, and will need every one on the roster to get through it. Favors is out with back spasms, which is a pretty delicate injury to begin with, so I expect the Jazz to play it safe and keep him out this week, or at least severely limit his minutes.

As I mentioned above when talking about Booker, the Lakers are the worst rebounding team in the NBA, so in addition to blocks there is a huge potential for Withey to grab a ton of rebounds as well.

Assists Streamer

Ramon Sessions (WAS, PG/SG) - 4% owned

Weekend Schedule: Fri @ MIA, Sat vs NOP

With Bradley Beal still out, Sessions has become a great spot play if you’re in need of assists. It’s one of the hardest categories to get help in from the waiver wire, especially if guys like Jameer Nelson and J.J. Barea are already rostered.

This weekend Sessions has two pretty good matchups against the Miami Heat and the New Orleans Pelicans back-to-back. If Miami is without Hassan Whiteside, this could be a sneaky good weekend for Sessions, who will face one of the worst defenses in the league in the Pelicans, and an old Heat team missing their young defensive rim protector.

Although Sessions doesn’t have the highest ceiling, he is very consistent, and you don’t have to worry about playing time. Over his last four games, he’s averaged exactly 27 minutes, in which he averaged over four assists a game. I think we can expect those averages to continue over the weekend, and could even see a little bump with the favorable matchups.

Also consider: Jameer Nelson (DEN, PG)

Steals Streamer

Norris Cole (MIL, PF/C) - 15% owned

Weekend Schedule: Fri vs. IND, Sun @ LAC

This pick hinges on the status of Tyreke Evans heading into the weekend.  Cole has shown that in his absence, he can produce in a very big way. Over his last three games Cole has averaged 16 points, 8.3 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and two steals a game. WOW. While this production is definitely just temporary, it could be a great pickup heading into the end of the week to swing not only steals, but a few other categories in your favor.

Side Note: Cole’s opponents are both in the bottom half of the league in giving up steals. If numbers aren’t your thing, we all know it only takes one sloppy game from Monta Ellis and Cole is looking at over three steals on Friday night alone.
