MLB Injury Updates for Fantasy Baseball: Springer, Stanton, Duda and More

What's up RotoBallers. Welcome again to the MLB player injury report. Similar to last week, there are a TON of players injured this week so let's take a look at them.

This time of year is the fantasy baseball home stretch, and staying on top of injured players can make a difference for your teams. Players coming back, or recently injured, may need to be added or dropped to keep your team running at optimal efficiency.

Just to reiterate, due to the sheer volume of players battling injury, I had to limit this discussion to those only holding the utmost fantasy baseball relevance. With that, we begin.

Recent MLB Injuries

George Springer: On August 29th, George Springer was sent to a Double-A rehab assignment. Expect him back soon.

Randal Grichuk: Randal Grichuk has yet to begin throwing with his injured elbow but he has done some swinging. A mid-September return seems likely.

Matt Holliday: Matt Holliday has started to participate in team batting practice but has only resumed light running for his injured quad. Don't expect him back until he begins full running.

Lance Lynn: Lance Lynn will sit out his next start on September 4th for an ankle sprain, but that is for precautionary reasons and he will be good to go after that.

Carlos Martinez: Carlos Martinez also was scratched from his start September 1st for back tightness but expect him to make his next start.

Kyle Schwarber: Kyle Schwarber is taking a few days off for rib soreness. It is nothing serious, expect a weekend return.

Brad Ziegler: With a fatigued arm and injured ankle, Brad Ziegler just needs rest. It is uncertain how long, but given the non-serious nature, you should also expect the Arizona closer back sooner rather than later.

Howie Kendrick: Howie Kendrick may not make a regular season return. His hamstring injury still isn't allowing him to run at full speed.

Yasiel Puig: Yasiel Puig is currently rehabbing his hamstring injury on the treadmill and in water. His status is also shaky for a regular season return.

Brandon Crawford: After taking a pitch to the calf Brandon Crawford was out of the starting lineup on September 1st and 2nd but was available to pinch hit on the 2nd. Expect him back very soon.

Joe Panik: Joe Panik is scheduled to start a Triple-A rehab assignment on Friday and will most likely be back next week.

Hunter Pence: Hunter Pence has been taking very light swings and there is currently no timetable for return.

Carlos Carrasco: Carlos Carrasco has played a little catch but his shoulder soreness remains an issue. Mid-September seems like a reasonable return date given his rehab pace.

Giancarlo Stanton: Giancarlo Stanton says he didn't feel 100% after a High-A rehab start, but a rehab start is encouraging nonetheless and Stanton should be expected back in the earlier parts of September.

Jose Fernandez: Jose Fernandez threw a bullpen session on August 27th and could return as early as mid-September from his bicep strain. Don't expect the Marlins to rush their young star though.

Lucas Duda: Lucas Duda has an injured back but has since started swinging a bat again and is expected to return sometime next week.

Bryce Harper: Bryce Harper has left glute tightness that forced him to exit the game on September 2nd. While there is currently no set day for return, Harper is day-to-day and should return very soon.

Denard Span: Denard Span is out for the season. Sorry.

Stephen Strasburg: Stephen Strasburg threw a bullpen session on September 4th and is expected to make his next start.

Glen Perkins: Glen Perkins underwent an MRI on his back after experiencing spasms, but he is expected to return to closing duty any day now.

Wil Myers: Wil Myers is expected to return for the end of the regular season and was sent to a Class-A Advanced rehab start on September 1st.

Maikel Franco: Maikel Franco hit out of the batting cage on September 2nd but experienced pain in his recovering wrist. If he returns this season, it will be in very late September.

Steven Souza Jr.: Steven Souza Jr. is scheduled to take live batting practice on September 4th. Souza could return as early as next week.

Hanley Ramirez: Hanley Ramirez is day-to-day with right shoulder fatigue. Hanley has been out of the starting lineup since August 28th but is probably just a day or two of rest away from returning to the starting lineup.

Mark Teixeira: Mark Teixeira is now on crutches after an MRI revealed his leg bruise is more serious than the original diagnosis indicated. He is out for at least several weeks and possibly the remainder of the regular season.

Mike Moustakas: Mike Moustakas has a mild hamstring strain that has kept him out of the starting lineup September 1st and 2nd but he was a pinch hitter on the 1st. Moustakas is day-to-day and should be back after a little more rest.
