Drew Smyly (SP, TAM) - Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add In All Mixed Leagues & AL-Only Leagues Immediately

ANALYSIS: Mazel Tov Tampa, you have managed to get pretty decent return for one of the top established aces in the league, David Price. The best part is that they traded a lefty for a lefty, so in theory, their rotation only loses potential skill, but not value.

While Drew Smyly may not have been a #1 overall pick, he has been a sabermetric darling for the better part of the the last full season. At the point of this trade, he was not fully delivering on the hype quite yet. But since then, it seems like something has truly clicked for the former 2nd rounder as he's posted a stunning 1.50 ERA and 29/7 K/BB ratio, making him the most recent addition to our waiver wire sleepers list for starting pitchers.

Now without checking, we are pretty sure that is quite a bit better than the veteran stud he traded places with. That being said this is a very small sample size for the youngster, so some regression may be on the horizon, but this is surely a sign of a very bright future for Smyly in the AL East. Pick up this sizzling stud immediately for the home stretch run if he is not owned in your league for some preposterous reason. He is still only owned in 44% of Yahoo leagues, and 29% of Fleaflicker leagues. Those numbers are just way too low.
