Buy Low and Sell High: Trade and Waiver Targets for Week 18

Are you looking to trade?  If your answer is “yes”, then the RotoBaller.com Buy/Sell Weekly Article is where to find some players of the week to Sell High on, and bunch for you to Buy Low.

You trade for one of two reasons:

1. You need a shortstop, have an extra third baseman and someone has as extra shortstop.  You trade a third baseman for a shortstop.  Done.
2. You have a player who is exceeding expectations.  He is unlikely to keep it up, so you trade him for a position you need. Done.

Let's take a look at some guys to buy and sell going into Week 18:

BUY 'EM

1. Matt Kemp – Make an offer!  He has missed so much time and his owners are understandably fed up, especially with his most recent DL stint.  If you can pry him away for the right price, and you can afford the DL player for another week-plus, he could pay off come August and beyond.
2. Giancarlo Stanton – Started off very sloooow and was injured, but he will be good for 13-17 home runs in the second half.
3. Jose Reyes – He will be a tough buy, as his owners have been stuck with an empty roster spot for much of the year and they're waiting for him to break out, which he will certainly do.  It doesn't hurt to see if the fish are biting though.
4. Yoenis Cespedes – Pull the trigger and do it quick, Yoenis is NOT a .227 hitter at all, and he could be in line for a stellar second half.  He seems to be over his recent thumb woes and he's appeared in each of the A's last two contests.  The time to buy is now, before he starts mashing.
5. Matt Cain – Cain is an ace and he will perform like one in the second half. I'm predicting that there's no way he maintains a 5.00+ ERA with a 1.20 WHIP.

SELL 'EM

1. Bartolo Colon, Nelson Cruz, Jhonny Peralta and Everth Cabrera – If Braun was put out for the balance of the season, expect these names to be suspended as well.  It looks like the evidence is substantial enough.  If you can get something-- anything-- for these guys, do it now before you end up dropping them like the 10,000 or so that did in Yahoo leagues last week. 2. Adam Jones – If you can afford to move an outfielder like Jones do it.  He is ranked as a top-10 player and you can sell him off as a five-tool guy, but his stats are destined to dip a bit in the second half.  He just does not walk at all, and it's not conceivable that a guy with that profile can maintain the batting average he has.  It’s tough to trade a guy like Jones but keep in mind, this may be his peak value.
3. Albert Pujols – Don’t look at this as you selling a player low.  Rather, find someone who you think may be buying someone low, get value and cut your losses.  If you can move the first baseman for an upgrade at a position where you need one, it might not be a bad move.
4. Ryan Braun – (keeper league only) Find the worst team in your keeper league and make a move.  His best seasons might have been under the influence of performance-enhancing drugs.  If you can sell him as if he'll be a first-round producer in 2014, you will not be sorry.
